Abstract

Business intelligence (BI) has been a top priority of information technology (IT) executives for several years; the wider academic research community has gradually embraced the topic, but little research has been published on the user experience (UX) of the front-end of BI applications. Although numerous UX frameworks have been proposed by literature, none of these are specific to BI front-end applications. This article describes a systematic review of the literature on UX frameworks for BI front-end applications. Using a systematic literature review (2003–2017) as methodology, this article presents an overview of the UX frameworks identified in the literature, the main elements comprising these frameworks, and future research opportunities in the field. Also presented is a literature-based conceptual UX framework for BI front-end applications as a point of departure in representing UX in the BI landscape.
