Abstract

Ground-based VHE gamma-ray astronomy is a young but rapidly expanding research section of high energy astroparticle physics. Most discoveries were made by large diameter air Cherenkov telescopes. To make further progress by lowering the detection threshold and increasing the sensitivity a conceptual design for a lightweight advanced IACT of 23 m ∅ mirror and of only 50 ton will be presented. Also the prospects for a second generation camera with Geigermode avalanche photodiodes will be discussed.
