Abstract

This article discusses the efficiency of isotope production at an electron accelerator. The efficiency criterion that is used is the coefficient of utilization bremsstrahlung photons with energy above the reaction threshold during the activation of the target. It has been demonstrated that the efficiency can be significantly increased when an accelerator output device consists of a set of consecutively located isotope targets with a specially selected composition. The first target is bremsstrahlung converter. An example is presented describing a device for the simultaneous production of 192Ir, 67Cu, 57Co, and 11C. A computer simulation based on PENELOPE-2008 software has been applied for an analysis of thermophysical and radiation conditions for each target in the electron energy range of 30–45 MeV. The data on the isotope yield are obtained for the use of the proposed device at the KUT-30 accelerator, Kharkov Institute of Physics and Technology.
