A concept for technology and innovation management in start-ups and new technology based firms (NTBF): PockeTM

Abstract

SummaryTo compete with larger firms, New Technology-Based Firms (NTBF) must develop advantages of flexibility and speed of response. Capitalizing on these advantages requires a special technology management approach. Therefore, it is of crucial importance to understand and classify the technology management activities of NTBF’s in regard to the development of methods, tools and processes. This has lead to a technology management for the NTBF – a PockeTM (Pocket Technology Management). Adapted to the needs of the NTBF, basic conditions for PockeTM are minimal size and adaptive composition. This article shows key elements of PockeTM which apply in a wide range of companies and industrial sectors, including technology strategy, technology intelligence, technology management control, network and knowledge management.
