Abstract

This articlegathers research and studies by authors who have dedicated themselves to investigate thecommunication on the net.By means of bibliographic research we discuss the impact of new media on society and modes of political participation. The social movements fostered from the virtual environment were the objects of analysis. The discussions about the phenomenon of breaking the hegemony of the mass media in information productionalso had space, as well as theorizations about the regulation of the internet and freedom of information and protection of personal data spread on the net.The studies and analyzes selected offer a general overview, although succinct, but that demonstrates the complexity of the theme.
