Abstract

In this study, a computer-based educational tool for static converters is presented for cost-effective education and training. Developments in power control techniques for pulse-width-modulated (PWM) inverters are often ignored because of inadequate time for testing and evaluation. In addition, teaching students PWM for static converters in a laboratory is time consuming and may be an expensive task. This study presents a computer-based educational tool for PWM for static converters, which has been designed to alleviate these problems. The tool has flexible structure and graphical interface. It can generate and display associated converter's output voltage and current waveforms and their respective frequency spectra for further evaluation of selected PWM schemes. PWM strategy, carrier and reference frequencies, carrier and reference voltage can be changed easily by using graphical interface. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
