Abstract

Warm and nutrient-rich wastewater discharged from controlled-environment fish production facilities, such as a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS), is a loss of heat energy and nutrients in addition to being potentially harmful to the environment. Effluent heat and nutrients can be partially recovered in a greenhouse attached to the RAS facility using hydroponics production of vegetables or aquatic plants.
