Abstract

SeisMiks is a new program for teaching and learning the basics of refraction seismology. It is a menu-driven, Microsoft Windows toolbook application that can be used either in a classroom or in a self-study mode. The theoretical part of the software covers the key principles of seismic refraction as applied to shallow, engineering-geology types of studies. A module for exercise and testing is also included. The program demonstrates the basic phenomena and concepts with animation and hypertext whenever possible.
