Abstract

The observed value of pictorial information in anatomy education together with the need to develop a cataloguing system for the prosected specimens in the anatomy department at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia provided the impetus to develop a video/computer-based system for capturing, annotating and storing exact images of prosected specimens. The outcome is a computer-based pictorial catalogue of about 150 prosected specimens which is available on computer or in print form. The computer bank of images generated during the development the catalogue provides a core around which purpose specific teaching modules will be developed in the future. The equipment required for the project is documented and the educationally valuable features of the pictorial catalogue are discussed.
