Abstract

Data acquisition for the HFBR chopper is accomplished by using a computer-controlled multiparameter magnetic tape recording system. The neutron time-of-flight and corresponding pulse height of the γ ray following neutron capture are encoded, stored on tape, and sorted to produce representative spectra for monitoring the experiment. Sorting and analysis of the resulting tapes is carried out in detail at a central computing facility. Such features as automatic gain monitoring, and the time-sharing of the computer between data collection and programming are described.
