Abstract
A Microsoft Windows-based program, WPDB, is a portable data management and query system that can be used locally to interpret the 3-D structures of biomacromolecules as found in the Protein Data Bank. The freeware is useful for preparing tutorials, slide shows, class material, and assignments. Subsets of structure files are chosen from the Data Bank and grouped according to lecture topics for students to use as self-paced tutorials with WPDB. This provides an effective aid to teach protein structures. The tutorials are available as supplemental materials.
