Abstract

This work presents a numerical technique for simulating free surface with and without bottom obstacles. The numerical method solves the governing equations using the finite difference method on a staggered grid and uses numerical computations for the analysis of Dam-Break Flow using two-dimensional flow equations in a vertical plane. The numerical model uses the general approach of the simplified marker and cell method combined with the volume of fluid approach for the surface tracking. The variable models were based on a computational fluid dynamics technique, called the SOLA-VOF scheme, which possesses the capability of treating transient fluid flow problems with evolution of free boundaries.
