Abstract

Review objectives The overall objective of this systematic review is to identify and synthesise the best available evidence on the feasibility, appropriateness, meaningfulness and effectiveness of management of dental anxiety and dental fear in paediatric and adult patients The objective for the quantitative component of the review is to identify and synthesise the best available evidence on the effectiveness of various interventions for reducing dental anxiety in paediatric and adult patients. More specifically, the objectives are to identify: 1.The effectiveness of pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions on dental anxiety in paediatric and adult patients undergoing dental procedures 2.The effectiveness of pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions on dental anxiety in paediatric and adult patients in the waiting room of the dental office The objective for the qualitative component of the review is to identify and synthesise the best available evidence on the meaningfulness/appropriateness of various pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions for paediatric and adult patients with dental anxiety. The objective of both quantitative and qualitative components is to explore the perception and satisfaction of both paediatric and adult patients regarding the use and dental clinicians for provision of various pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions to manage dental anxiety. The objective for the text and opinion component of the review is to identify the expert opinions & comments, monographs, reports, and government policies on pharmacological and nonpharmacological management of dental anxiety in paediatric and adult patients. The objective/s for the economic component of this review is/are to identify and synthesise the best available evidence on the cost effectiveness, cost benefit, cost minimisation, cost utility of pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions for managing dental anxiety in paediatric and adult patients.More specifically, the objectives are to identify the evidence on:3.The cost effectiveness, cost benefit, cost minimisation, cost utility of pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions compared to routine care or no intervention on reducing dental anxiety in paediatric and adult patients in a dental setting. Inclusion criteria Types of participants The quantitative, qualitative, textual and economic components of this review will consider studies that include paediatric/adolescent (one to 18 years old) and adult patients (including older adults, TRUNCATED AT 350 WORDS.
