Abstract
Multifactor Authentication is a term used to describe security mechanisms that make use of two or more distinct and different category of authentication mechanisms to increase the protection for valid authentication. Multifactor Authentication that uses two levels of security can be used to obtain Two-factor Authentication. Introducing One Time Passwords (OTPs) to the existing authentication scheme can provide Two-factor authentication security. An OTP is a password that is valid for only one login session or transaction. OTPs avoid a number of shortcomings that are associated with traditional passwords. In this paper we do a survey on the different aspects of one time passwords and its impact on Two-factor Authentication.
