Abstract
Solar dryers are a well-known technology was utilize to dry various agricultural and food products. There are some limitations to the use of open sun drying but these limitations can be overcome through the use of solar dryers. There are also some limitations to the use of traditional solar dryers, which are represented in increasing drying time, low drying efficiency, difficulty controlling the drying air temperature, inability to achieve continuous drying during daylight hours, in addition to the unavailability of electricity in some remote areas to operate the air blower on forced convection mode. Therefore, this research provides a comprehensive review in detail of the most important and latest technologies that have been combined with solar dryers, which showed a significant improvement in the performance of solar dryers, which were conducted during the past few years, and its statement is as follows: Photovoltaic/thermal (PVT) panels, Solar collectors, Energy storage materials, Biomass, Thermal recovery unit, humidification-dehumidification (HDH) desalination units, and sorbent materials. Also, the present review paper deals with the most important research points that can be recommended in future work, which aims to design hybrid systems for multiple purposes.
