Abstract

In the conventional power grid, generation of power have done at several potential locations and transmitted this power through transmission lines into power grid and then distributed at customer location or premises. The conventional power grid incurs large investment, low reliability greenhouse emission and large transmission losses. Therefore, the idea of connecting various small sources or distributed generations (DG) (fraction of megawatts) such as wind, solar power, micro turbine, fuel cell and small hydro plant at low voltage level to fulfil the required customer need which develop new term known as microgrid. In this paper comparison of AC and DC microgrid with main technical challenges has been presented, and examine the promising and existing solution of the corresponding AC & DC micro grid challenges.
