Abstract

Scarcity of fossil fuels and pressing environmental concerns are the main driving factors towards the paradigm shift from conventional to contemporary means of energy harnessing. Likewise, transportation sector is also undergoing a tantamount change with electric vehicles now seen as an alternate to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles with the additional advantage of supplying power to the grid during non-driving hours. However, their widespread deployment can cause serious problems to the operation of power grid like power quality issues and overloading of distribution transformers if proper corrective decisions and optimal charging strategies of these vehicles is not followed. This paper presents a comprehensive review on the impacts of widespread deployment of electric vehicles on the power grid and proposes remedies for avoiding congestion caused by the charging of Electric Vehicles.
