Abstract

Chalcogenides (S, Se, Te) have attracted researchers as a promising material for non-volatile memory, solar cells and as battery electrode material for rechargeable batteries. Sulfur (S) the fifth most common chemical element on earth, which is mainly used in fertilizers, Selenium (Se), a semiconductor commonly used in making glass, Tellurium (Te) which is mainly used to vulcanize rubber and to tint glass are being explored as electrode material for rechargeable batteries. This paper summarizes the electrochemical performance of certain metal chalcogenide alloys which can be used as an alternate to Li and Na compositions for realizing rechargeable battery electrodes. We also report the experimental results of synthesis, electrochemical study and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) studies of certain copper-chalcogenide compositions.
