Abstract

In 1972, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommended the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index, although less than perfect, as the standard index for measuring heat stress. Recently, many researchers have emphasized that the Botsball can be used as a good indicator for the WBGT. A comprehensive review of the advantages and disadvantages of the WBGT and the Botsball, as well as the relationships between these heat stress indices found by previous investigators, are given in this paper. From this review it can be concluded that the Botsball deserves to be considered as the new standard index for measuring heat stress.
