Abstract

This article explores the relation between ethical perspectives and temporalities . It presents the idea that three classic types of moral discernment – deontological, teleological and situational ethics – directly accompany essential features of pre-modern , modern and late modernity temporality . It is investigated, first the customary identification of conservative or traditionalist pers pectives with deontological ethics and pre-modern temporality, then the relation between progressive views , teleological ethics and modern temporality, and, finally, the correlation between situational ethics, and postmodern temporality . The objective is thus to understand better ethical preferences and intentions of each period and temporality, and the contribution of each in type of ethic in the process of moral discernment .
