Abstract

Synopsis Remapping of the Schiehallion district of Central Perthshire has led to the recognition of a new succession, stratigraphically interposed between the Moine and the Blair Atholl “Series”. A description of the lithologies and comparison with type areas in the SW Highlands clearly shows that this succession comprises the Ballachulish and Lochaber Subgroups of the Lower Dalradian. The succession, although greatly compressed, is considered to be the most complete sequence of the Lower Dalradian yet described.
