Abstract

A new two-stage procedure was used to treat 22 patients with treatment-resistant PDS. A new type of fluid-bearing appliance was worn by 22 patients with treatment-resistant temporomandibular joint pain-dysfunction syndrome. Improvement was retained by use of a two-stage treatment procedure. A hydrostatic appliance was worn in the first stage. The second stage consisted of either hydrostatically directed occlusal equilibration or construction of a hydrostatically derived full occlusal splint. This treatment procedure produced significant results. A new two-stage procedure was used to treat 22 patients with treatment-resistant PDS.
