Abstract

A different technique for realising a 3-D perspective of pictures on the existing TV receivers is presented in this paper. Two images of a 3-D object are produced and transmitted, one of the two during the odd field and the other during the even field of an interlaced-scanned TV system. An inexpensive electronic logic module, added at the transmitting and receiving ends, controls the multiplexing and demultiplexing of the video signals without any modifications to the TV signal standards. This technique uses a Field Masking Synchronous Shutter (FMSS) for realisation of 3-D perspective. This also overcomes the limitations posed by the use of color filters in the earlier proposals. The cost performance factor of the new scheme makes its implementation attractive for both Color and Black and White (B/W) TV systems.
