Abstract

Objectives To compare the clinical efficacy of percutaneous nephrolithotomy(PCNL) with flexible ureteroscope lithotripsy(FURL) for renal calculi and to observe the effect of the two surgical methods on oxidative stress reaction. Methods A total of 86 cases with renal calculi from August 2015 to August 2016 were randomly assigned to FURL group(n=60) underwent FURL and PCNL group(n=60) who underwent PCNL according to randomized digital table. The clinical efficacy and indices related to oxidative stress reaction between the two groups were compared. Results All of the patients underwent the operation without serious intraoperative complications successfully. In the FURL group, the mean blood loss, hospital stay and the frequency of analgesic use in 72 hours after operation were significantly lower than those in the PCNL group(P 0.05). The differences in the serum level of malonaldehyde(MDA), superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) between the two groups on the 1st day preoperatively and the 7th day postoperatively were not statistical(P>0.05). Compared with those in the PCNL group, the levels of MDA were higher and the levels of SOD and GSH-Px were significantly lower on the 1st day and 3rd day postoperatively(P<0.05). Conclusions FURL has similar effect as PCNL for the treatment of renal calculi of 10~20 mm. But FURL has minimal trauma, quicker recovery and less influence on the oxidative stress reaction. Key words: Kidney Calculi; Nephrostomy, Percutaneous; Ureteroscopes; Oxidative Stress
