Abstract

Simultaneous records of 10-min mean wind speed and direction, obtained during the period from October 1977 to March 1979 at Portland Bill Coast Guard Station and the Royal Naval Air Station Portland, are compared in order to show the effect of topography on local winds at Portland. The method used is applicable to any situation where it may be desirable to generate wind probability estimates from incomplete local records using data from a nearby meteorological station.
