Abstract

A continuum model of a burning fuel spray, which has full gas-liquid coupling and includes inter-phase slip, is described. It is compared with a continuum model which does not include inter-phase slip. Also it is compared with discrete fuel spray models with and without slip. Each of the four models is used to solve two test cases. It is found that the continuum and discrete models give similar results when both include or do not include the effect of slip. There is, however, a significant difference between the results with and without slip. The continuum model with slip presents greater computational difficulties than the discrete model with slip, when turbulent diffusion of the droplets is not taken into account. When diffusion of the droplets is included it is expected that this difference in computational difficulty will diminish.
