Abstract

SUMMARY The histological appearance of rat adrenal sections stained with simple lipoid stains has been compared with that of similar sections stained by the NAHD reaction. It is concluded that in the adrenal cortex of the rat there is a good correlation between the areas stained by the simple lipoid stains and those by the NAHD reaction. It has also been shown that the period and circumstances of the fixation in formalin influence the development of the reaction. Changes in the nature of the lipoid present in the zona glomerulosa were produced by ACTH stimulation and suppression and these are considered to indicate a sensitivity of this zone to ACTH.
