Abstract

The ash, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, protein and proteinic and free amino acids content of Posidonia australis Hook.f. has been assessed and compared with data obtained from similar analyses on Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delile. Selected comparisons have also been made with Cymodocea nodosa (Ucria) Aschers., Thalassia testudinum Banks ex König, Halophila stipulacea (Forsk.) Aschers., Zostera marina L. and Zostera noltii Hornemann. Amino acid content has also been compared with that recorded forlucerne, and hay composed of several species of Gramineae.
