Abstract

Objective To compare the effect of the soft material FP8 and the hard material S3 Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation for refractory glaucoma. Methods Thirty-one eyes of 30 cases of soft Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation (FP8 group) and thirty-one eyes of 29 cases of hard Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation (S3 group) were collected in this study. The postoperative and preoperative intraocular pressure was measured. The postoperative functional filtering bleb formation rate was determined by optical biological measurement instrument. The inflammatory factors in aqueous humor through paracentesis were detected on the seventh day after the operation. The medicine utilization and complications in patients of the two groups after the operation were observed. Results The intraocular pressure on the 30 days, 90 days and 180 days after the surgery were decreased in FP8 Ahmed group when compared with that in S3 group (P 0.05). Conclusion Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation with FP8 has more advantages in reducing postoperative intraocular pressure, increasing the rate of postoperative functional filtering bleb formation, reducing postoperative inflammatory reaction and anti-glaucoma medicine. It is a good choice for refractory glaucoma. Key words: Glaucoma, refractory; Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation; Soft material FP8; Hard material S3; Comparison, effect
