Abstract

2 tests of humoral antisperm activity the sperm microagglutination (SMA) and sperm immobilization (SI) tests were used to study females of 196 infertile couples 43 of whom had known organic infertility with the remaining 153 having infertility of unknown origin; 50 pregnant women served as controls. The SMA test revealed only small differences in incidence of positive SMA among all 3 groups but the SI test showed clear differences when patients with unexplained infertility were compared with patients with major organic infertility or with controls. There was no significant correlation between the 2 tests. Comparison of the present results with those of other workers suggests that the SI test is the most reliable single method for the detection of humoral antisperm activity with possible clinical significance.(AUTHORS MODIFIED)
