Abstract

A method of evaluating the performance of PWM switching strategies on the basis of overall drive (system) efficiency is presented. System efficiency is the product of inverter and motor efficiency. Methods for calculating the motor and inverter efficiencies, and therefore the system efficiency, are outlined. The calculation procedure is then used to compare four of the most common PWM switching strategies.
