Abstract

Soil-moisture measurements were made in the same plots by the neutron- moderation technique and gravimetric sampling. A cost comparison between the two methods indicated that the investment in neutron-moderation equipment was repaid in a relatively short period on labor-saving alone. The within-plot coefficient of error for three gravity samples compared to measurements in two neutron-moderation access tubes was 13.63% and 6.29%, respectively.
