Abstract

The relative total quenching rate constants for Kr( 3P 1) by Xe and several molecules at 300 K were measured using the sensitization technique. Electronically excited products resulting from the quenching of Kr( 3P 1) were characterized by emission spectra observed in the wide spectral range from the vacuum UV to the near IR. The results are compared with those of Kr( 3P 2). Collisions of Kr( 3P 1) and ground state Xe result in the formation of Xe( 3P 1) and all six Xe(6p) states. For the reaction of Kr( 3P 1) with CO, the endoergic product level CO(d, υ′ =22) is dominant over the exoergic product level CO(d, υ′ =21, 20).
