Abstract

Nowadays, there exists a great interest in horizontal and hydraulically fractured wells, as they are much more productive than vertical ones. The authors propose a comparison of productivity index and drainage area for a horizontal well and a vertically fractured one. The comparison is done on the basis of well test analysis of a horizontally drilled well in Ilam formation. The study is oriented toward the numerical methods to solve complex equations describing the pressure behavior of hydraulically fractured wells. The authors show that the numerical solution is much more accurate than the analytical one which is based on the pseudo skin function concept. The drainage area and productivity index for both cases is compared. The results state that in similar conditions, hydraulic fracturing would be much more effective than a horizontal well in discussed case.
