Abstract

Summary Comparative tests of different methods of inoculating the hind pads of the guinea-pig with the virus of foot-and-mouth disease are described. Intradermal tracking was much more sensitive for detection of virus than either multiple puncture or scarification, the end-point in titrations by the latter methods being ten- to one hundredfold lower than by the intradermal methods. The conclusion was reached that, of the methods examined, multiple tracking of both hind pads is the most reliable method of intradermal inoculation of the guinea-pig.
