Abstract

This paper deals with the current determination of Interior Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motors (IPMSM) for wide-speed torque control operation for commonly chosen optimization criteria. An offline exhaustive algorithm for current determination using Maximum Torque Per Ampere (MTPA), Maximum Torque per Motor Loss (MTPML), and Maximum Torque Per System Loss (MTPSL) is presented. The magnetic saturation, stator resistive voltage drop, and inverter losses, are also included. Their impact on the system performance using each method are fully investigated. Simulink simulations are conducted considering an industrial application. The results from the three different optimisation criteria (MTPA, MTPML, MTPSL) are compared and discussed in terms of overall efficiency, DC power and, AC power, both in motoring and generating mode.
