Abstract

This pilot study compared crying patterns of twogroups of 4-week-old babies and their mother's zinc levels. Mothers were allocated to a zinc-supplemented group (one 25 mgm tablet daily) or non-zinc supplemented group. They were requested to chart their babies crying patterns at the beginning of their babies 4 th week of birth. Twenty-nine mothers of seventy-five who were recruited for the pilot study returned their completed forms. Group Z (N=13) comprised mothers who were given a zinc supplement and Group NZ (N=16) consisted of those mothers not given a zinc supplement.
