Abstract

with both devices. Laryngoscopy was performed using a Mac or a GVL in the assigned randomized sequence. The study period started when the laryngoscope passed between the patient’s teeth and ceased when laryngoscopy enabled the placement of a styletted tracheal tube at, but not through, the laryngeal inlet. The trachea was then intubated with the second device. Results: From July 2011 to April 2012, data was collected from 44 subjects. However, equipment failure happened on 4 occasions. Results are shown in Table 1. Conclusions: GVL laryngoscopy duration is lengthened when compared to Mac. Therefore, despite the reduction in peak and average forces, GVL impulse forces were similar to Mac.
