Abstract
Results are presented of a test case conducted to compare the assessment of mathematics students by open book tests and closed book examination. The results show that: (i) the grades obtained in open book tests are comparable with those obtained in closed book tests; and (ii) open book tests are a better discriminator among students than closed book tests.
