Abstract
This paper ccpares the accuracy of several algorithms for camputing the loss-of-load probability index for a generating system. The algorithms considered are: a) the method of cumulants, b) a distribution fitting procedure, and c) a large deviation procedure. By applying these procedures to computing the reliability index for two representative utility systems, it is observed that the large deviation method is generally very accurate.
