Abstract

The study found significant differences in educational and occupational aspirations of New Zealand-born Chinese students and their European counterparts. These aspirations were consistent with parental expectations. Although the parental pressure motivated Chinese students to succeed, it appeared to have a negative effect on their perception of their abilities.
