Abstract
Literature helps us to know about a country, people, beliefs, professions and races but it doesn’t give a clear idea about folklore. Folklore literature is a storehouse of what human society has experienced and learned. At beginning man lived his life according to his wish. The only source for him is nature and they worshipped nature. From that many festivals, beliefs and sacrifices are formed. They separated worshipping as minor deity worship and major deity worship. Folk literature is created and preserved by the lay people. The history of the deities is told in mythological stories and epics. Each deity has its own myths. The aim of this article is to compare the beliefs, rituals and ceremonies between the Valayanad Devi and Samundi Deities.
