Abstract

A comparative study was conducted to assess the knowledge and attitude of mothers regarding developmental milestones among their under-five children in selected rural and urban areas of Ludhiana, Punjab. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge of rural and urban mothers regarding developmental milestones among their under-five children; to assess the attitude of the rural and urban mothers regarding developmental milestones among their under-five children; to compare the knowledge and attitude of rural and urban mothers regarding developmental milestones among their under-five children; to find out the relationship of rural and urban mothers’ knowledge regarding developmental milestones in their under-five children with selected variables, i.e., mother’s age, qualification, occupation, number of children, type of family, family monthly income, source of information and health facilities; to find out the relationship of rural and urban mothers’ attitude regarding developmental milestones in their under-five children with selected variables, i.e., mother’s age, qualification, occupation, number of children, type of family, family monthly income, source of information and health facilities; and to prepare guidelines regarding developmental milestones. This study has identified that the rural and urban mothers’ knowledge was statistically significant at p < 0.05 with demographic variables such as mother’s age, qualification, occupation, number of children, type of family, family monthly income, source of information and health facilities. Guidelines on developmental milestones were prepared by the investigator to improve the knowledge and attitude of mothers regarding developmental milestones.
