Abstract

Present study aims to elucidate the wear resistance/morphology/mechanism at wear distances from 3 to 1000 m based on the microstructure and tensile properties in DP steel and QP steel with similar initial hardness by means of sliding wear test and electron microscopes. QP steel shows better wear resistance at higher wear distance over 150 m opposite to lower wear distance, compared to DP steel, due to continuous increase in hardened layer during wear test in QP steel. This is because of higher fraction of adhesive wearing (e.g., galling) without significant wear loss originated from higher capacity of strain−hardening caused by effective impacts of grain refinement of ferrite, transformation-induced plasticity, and multiphase hardening in QP steel.
