Abstract
Surface and subsurface heave in an expansive shale and associated changes in soil suction and water content were measured in an instrumented field experiment station. Field observations and results of laboratory studies which include swell oedometer tests and suction measurements are presented. In-situ swell measurements are compared with the heave predicted by oedometer and suction methods.
