Abstract

It is shown that the dielectric second virial coefficient minus the refractive second virial coefficient is related to the integrated collision-induced absorption for binary interactions. The dielectric second virial coefficient of an atomic gas is compared to the collision-induced polarized scattered spectrum, being both related to the symmetric part of the interaction polarizability tensor. The Kerr second virial coefficient and the collision-induced depolarized scattered spectrum are also compared since they are related to the anisotropic part of the interaction polarizability tensor.
