Abstract

Self-esteem refers to the evaluation a person makes customarily maintains with regard to him or her. Self -esteem expresses attitude of approval or disapproval and indicates the extent to which a person believes him or herself capable, significant, successful and worthy. This study aims to examine the difference in self-esteem of female players and non-players and to check the effect of participation in sports on self-esteem of individuals. A total sample of 100 girls (50 players and 50 nonplayers) in the age range of 18–25 years was taken from various colleges of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak. A twogroup design was used to study the significance of difference between female players and non-players. The data were analysed by descriptive statistics and t-test. Results depicted significant differences in self-esteem of female players and non-players.
