Abstract

1. 1. 13C-NMR spectra of formic acid solutions of chitin proteoglycans from cephalopod pen, lamellibranch siphon sheath and crab cuticle have been determined. 2. 2. Carbohydrate and amino acid components provide well-defined resonances, completely assignable in the case of hexosamine and partially so for protein amino acids. 3. 3. The individually unique spectra contain information of compositional and chain environment nature. 4. 4. Spectral data for each protein amino acid, as a formic acid solution, is presented and compared with values for chemical shifts of amino acids and peptides in water.
