A Comparative Study of Linguistic Identities between Generations in Romanian and Korean Society

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 세대와 언어의 관계를 고찰하고 이를 바탕으로 루마니 아와 한국 사회의 세대 간 언어 차이를 비교 연구하는 것이다. 본고에서의 세대의 정의는 역사적 경험과 문화적 동질성을 공유하는 코호트로서의 세대의 의미와 함께 연령으로서의 세대의 의미를 동시에 고려하였다. 코호트와 연령 두 개념 모두 해당 집단의 언어적 유사성을 가져오는 요인으로 볼수 있으나, 두 변수 간의 영향력은 집단에 속한 화자가 가지는 자기 정체성에 대한 이해에 따라서 달라지는 것으로 보인다. 본고에서는 현 시점에서 생애 주기상 ‘청년 세대’의 언어를 주 연구 대상으로 다루었으며 이들은 Z 세대에 속하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. Z세대의 언어적 특징은 모빌리티 환경에 서의 “기록된 구술성”을 중심으로 이해될 수 있다. 언어에 영향을 미치는 사회적 변수로서 세대요인은 루마니아 사회에 비해서 한국사회에서 좀 더강력하게 작용하는 것으로 보인다. 이는 무엇보다도 세대 간 언어적 차이가 대부분 어휘적인 측면에서 나타나는 점에서 볼 때, 신조어 생산에서 유리한 한국어의 유형론적 구조와 구어체 언어의 기록 및 발화에 유리한 한글의 구조 역시 영향을 미친 것으로 보인다.The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between generations and languages, and to compare the language differences between Romanian and Korean societies. The definition of generation in this paper considers the meaning of generation as age as well as the meaning of generation as cohort sharing historical experience and cultural homogeneity. Both the concept of cohort and age can be regarded as social factors that bring about the linguistic similarity of the group, but the influence between the two variables seems to depend on the understanding of the self-identity of the speakers of the group. This paper deals with the language of the ‘young generation’ in the life cycle at this time. At this point in time, the group belonging to the younger generation in the life cycle can be seen as generation Z from the point of view of the cohort generation. The linguistic features of Generation Z can be understood in terms of “transcribed orality” in mobility environments. Generation factors as social variables affecting language seem to be more powerful in Korean society than in Romanian society. Most of all, the linguistic differences between generations appear mostly in the lexical aspect, and the typological structure of Korean, which is advantageous in the production of new words, and the structure of Korean, which is good for the transcription, also seem to influence.
