Abstract

There are countless options for construction materials in the market nowadays. Various materials are developed depending on their strength, durability, economy, and sustainability. But who will estimate how these materials will affect the environment? Yes, everything that exists on this planet contributes to or creates environmental pollution in some way. Since concrete is the second most widely used material on Earth and as it increases carbon emissions that are hazardous for both humans and the environment it is vital to quantify the impacts. Therefore, utilizing the eco-invent database and the Open-LCA software, the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of conventional concrete which has been used in G + 5 residential building components, and sustainable concrete which is obtained by replacement of eco-friendly materials is presented in this study. A comparative study of environmental impacts is also done. In order to take the required steps to reduce the effects on nature, choosing sustainable materials and evaluating the environmental impacts are essential. The findings demonstrate that choosing eco-friendly materials that have comparable properties to traditional building materials can help lessen negative environmental effects.
